Director Christopher Nolan filmed a small portion of BATMAN BEGINS in Chicago, Illinois, and almost all of THE DARK KNIGHT in the Windy City.
Could Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN follow suit?
According to SCREEN MAGAZINE, THE BATMAN is coming to film in downtown Chicago in October over the course of 2 weekends: October 16-18 and October 24-25. Here’s a blurb from their report…
The Chicago dates for THE BATMAN are set. Director Matt Reeves and his team will be shooting in Chicago for five days next month, and are currently in pre-production. Those days consist of two full weekends, beginning on October 16, 17, 18, then finishing up on October 24 and 25. Sources tell SCREEN that filming is expected to take place mostly in downtown Chicago, capturing some action-packed scenes with extensive driving sequences and a massive number of cameras in play.
To note, it’s been reported that THE BATMAN is filming on-location in Liverpool, UK from Monday, October 12th to Friday, October 16th, so it appears that filming will overlap a day in two different cities on two different countries (and continents). If I had to guess, the Chicago shoot will be mostly second unit stuff, but I could be wrong.
If the Chicago shoot does indeed go down, it’ll be interesting to see what Chicago landmarks, buildings, etc. that were seen in BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT will end up in THE BATMAN.
