Marvel Comics continues its tribute to the late comic book visionary and former editor-in-chief Stan Lee in this week’s comic book releases from the publisher.
This week’s single issues contain a full page tribute to the prolific comic book creator with a special thank you to readers from Stan’s Soapbox, the write-in column that ran with Marvel’s Bullpen Bulletins page regularly in monthly comics published from 1967 through 1978. The letter has Lee thank readers for their continued support of Marvel and the publisher’s commitment to release quality comic book titles.
Lee passed away this past November at the age of 95, after a lifetime of working in the comic book industry and helping launch Marvel as the leading North American comic book publisher.
As a writer, Lee co-created much of the Marvel Universe including the Fantastic Four, the Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man, the Avengers, the X-Men, Black Panther, Silver Surfer and Daredevil. Following his tenure as a writer, Lee served as Marvel’s editor-in-chief until 1972 when he became took on the role of publisher and served as the public figurehead for the company, leading to numerous cameo appearances in Marvel Comics adaptations in television and film which he continued for the remainder of his life as Smilin’ Stan Lee with his signature catchphrase “Excelsior!”
