RUMOR: Keanu Reeves Almost Played This Key Captain Marvel Character

The amount of big name talent Marvel Studios has managed to attract over the past decade has been nothing short of amazing. Still, there’s one big name that continues to get tossed around for a new Marvel project: Keanu Reeves. In 2014, Reeves was one of many rumored to be in contention for the role of Doctor Strange, long before Benedict Cumberbatch signed on to play the character. A new rumor claims the actor nearly played a major role in Captain Marvel, but he had to pull out due to other obligations.

According to Charles Murphy of That Hashtag Show, Reeves was set to play Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel, but he ultimately had to drop out due to filming obligations on John Wick 3. After Reeves dropped out, the studio reportedly moved in quickly on Jude Law, securing a big name for the role.

It’s not entirely clear who exactly Law is playing in the film. Some sources contend he’s playing Yon-Rogg, while others say that he’s playing Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel. It’s also possible that this rumor is false, and Reeves was never associated with the role.

It’s unfortunate, of course, for fans that have been eager to see Reeves play a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it wouldn’t be too surprising if Marvel Studios brings the actor onto one of its many upcoming projects. Reeves himself seems keen to join the MCU, having expressed his interest in playing Wolverine. Of course, as Reeves previously said, it all comes down to the script and the director. “You need the material, which is a script, and you need a director that you feel can deliver a vision,” the actor previously said. “You don’t want to just do it for doing it. You want to make sure it’s trying to do something.”
