Disney+ Has More Star Wars Series In Development After ‘The Mandalorian’

Fans can expect more Star Wars shows to hit Disney Plus after The Mandalorian is released.

In an earnings call, The Wrap reported that Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that the upcoming Disney Plus streaming service has more live-action Star Wars shows in development that will be released after The Mandalorian. The Mandalorian is obviously the hot-show that Disney Plus is promoting, as it’s the first-ever live-action Star Wars show (if we’re not counting the much maligned Star Wars Holiday Special).

News that we’ll be getting more Star Wars shows in development apart from The Mandalorian is great for fans who were disappointed to find out that the franchise will be going on hiatus on the theatrical front after the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

What exactly “more in development” means is best left to speculation at this point. We do know that we’ll be getting live-action television dramas focusing on Star Wars characters Obi-Wan and Cassian Andor down the road, but it’s uncertain if the Disney CEO meant in addition to these. Star Wars has such a rich amount of world building and interesting characters that it’s almost certain that we’ll be getting enough content after The Mandalorian.

You can check out the plot synopsis for The Mandalorian below.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The Disney Plus series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.

Dave Filoni will direct the first episode of the Star Wars series and additional episodes will be helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, and Jessica Jones director Deborah Chow.

The Mandalorian will premiere exclusively on Disney Plus on November 12, 2019.
