General Hux actor Domhnall Gleeson wishes that his First Order character lived longer in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may have been the most critically panned film of the live-action series, but it did have its own fair share of twists and turns. Perhaps the most unexpected was the way the film handled First Order member General Hux. In the sequel trilogy, General Hux was one of the highest-ranking members of the First Order, often only answering to Supreme Leader Snoke and later Kylo Ren. Sadly his role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was reduced when compared to his role in previous films.
In it, Domhnall Gleeson’s General Hux turned out to be a spy who was feeding information to The Resistance. When asked about it, he said that his motivation was to remove Kylo Ren as the leader of the First Order. He helped Poe and Finn escape execution, having himself shot in the leg in order to maintain his cover. Unfortunately for General Hux, Richard E. Grant’s General Pryde immediately saw through this ruse and executed General Hux on the spot. But Domhnall Gleeson wished that this plot played out a bit longer.
While speaking to IndiWire, Domhnall Gleeson talked about his smaller role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and how he wished it played out:
“It would’ve been nice to stick around a little bit longer, for sure. It would’ve been nice to see the spy thing play out a little bit, but J.J. [Abrams] knows what he’s doing, and I heard a kind of gasp in the cinema when it happened, so I guess he was right.”
