Sony Releases Statement On Ending Of Marvel Studios Spider-Man Deal: “We’re Disappointed”

Sony has released an official statement to the ending of their Spider-Man deal with Marvel Studios.

Earlier today it felt like the worst news possible happened–Marvel Studios ended their deal with Sony that kept Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After a lot of back and forth it was revealed that Kevin Feige wanted to make a big change in their deal that would give Disney and Marvel Studios 50% of the profits made from future Spider-Man films. That would be an 1000% increase from their original 5% deal with Sony.

Fans around the globe quickly became disappointed and launch petitions and used Social Media to outcry against the ending of the deal. Both studios have remained quiet, but now Sony has released an official statement explaining the events that led to the deal not being renewed.

In the official statement released to The Hollywood Reporter, a Sony spokesperson states:

Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise, we are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film.

What do you think of Sony’s statement? Are you disappointed that Marvel Studios has decided not to renew their deal for Spider-Man to remain in the MCU? Sound off in the comments section below!
