Tom Hardy’s ‘Venom 2’ To Feature Another Classic Marvel Villain Besides Carnage

The classic Marvel villain Shriek will reportedly join Carnage in Tom Hardy’s Venom 2.

Sony’s Venom featured a post-credits scene that introduced Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock to Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady, the alter-ego of the vicious villain Carnage. The brief introduction of Carnage led many to assume the character would serve as the main antagonist of Tom Hardy’s Venom 2, but it appears the unstable serial killer will be joined by the Marvel villain known as Shriek.

Deadline reports that two sources close to Tom Hardy’s Venom 2 have revealed Shriek will be included alongside Carnage in the sequel. A spokesman for Sony reportedly declined to comment on Shriek’s inclusion, noting that Tom Hardy’s Venom 2 is still in the early-days status. The people behind Tom Hardy’s Venom 2 are currently searching for an actress to play Shriek, but the list of candidates has been expanding rather than narrowing according to one of the outlet’s sources:

“Right now the role is not filled, the net is cast wide toward many kinds of actresses.”

As for what type of actress is being sought to join Carnage as Shriek, the source added that the filmmakers are currently “looking mostly at unknowns right now.”

Introduced in Marvel’s Spider-Man Unlimited No. 1, Shriek was originally known as Frances Barriosn, a drug dealer whose latent mutant powers emerged after severe trauma following a confrontation with Cloak and Dagger. Having unlocked her abilities to fire sonic energy blasts and stir up dark and violent emotions in others, Shriek eventually became the accomplice and love interest of Carnage.

Directed by Andy Serkis from a script written by Kelly Marcel, Venom 2 stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, and Woody Harrelson as Carnage. It is widely believed that Tom Hardy’s Venom 2 is the untitled Marvel project Sony has slated for release on October 2, 2020.

Here is the official synopsis for the first Venom film:

The evolution story of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass character – Venom! Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is a broken man after he loses everything including his job and fiancée. Just when his life is at its lowest, he becomes host to an alien symbiote which results in extraordinary superpowers – transforming him into Venom. Will these powers be enough for this new lethal protector to defeat great evil forces, especially against the far stronger and more weaponized symbiote rival, Riot?

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script written by Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Ron Cephas Jones, and Woody Harrelson.
