Indiana Jones 5 finally began filming earlier this summer, and now there’s a new actor joining the Indy sequel. Deadline is reporting that Antonio Banderas is the latest addition to the cast. However, there are currently no details about which character Banderas will play.
Banderas recently appeared in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, and he is also co-starring in the upcoming Uncharted movie. Among genre fans, Banderas is perhaps best known for his roles in The Mask of Zorro, Spy Kids, and Desperado. He is also the voice of DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots, including the upcoming sequel, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
As noted by Deadline, Banderas also recently earned his first Oscar nomination for his role in Pain and Gain.
Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones for the fifth and final time on the big screen. However, Ford was injured on the set last month, and it’s unclear how long his recovery will take.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge will also star in Indiana Jones 5, alongside Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook and Shaunette Renée Wilson. James Mangold will direct the sequel, while Steven Spielberg will produce the film alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel.
Indiana Jones 5 will hit theaters on July 29, 2022.
