Kevin Feige Says the Next Avengers Saga “Is Already Underway”

As the only Marvel Cinematic Universe feature films since Avengers: Endgame have been an epilogue (Spider-Man: Far From Home), a prequel (Black Widow), and a completely new character (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), fans might not think much new world-building has been done. But in a new interview with Kevin Feige at Collider, the Marvel Studios president suggests that’s not the case.

Though he mostly gives evasive non-answers, when directly asked about the next Avengers group team-up movie, Feige’s more appropriately direct. “We want there to be a reasonable amount of time from the Endgame to start a new saga, which is already underway and already started,” he says. “Then you need some time as we did in phase one to build that saga before you start bringing everybody together.”

So what is underway and started? The Disney+ shows have already teased the emergence of Kang, also confirmed to be in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and a product of the Multiverse. WandaVision, the teaser for Spider-Man: No Way Home, and especially the latest episode of What If…? hint at a Multiverse breaking. But then the closing scenes of Shang-Chi imply an altogether different long-term story seed, as does the Eternals trailer. Asked about Young Avengers, Feige neither denies nor confirms, saying simply, “When will we be announcing anything in this world? We’ll have to figure out.”

But whatever the next big saga is that comes together, it seems we have already seen the beginning. And he does say that more new planets will show up even outside of Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Regardless, without Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, or Natasha Romanoff, we’re looking at a very different Avengers next time.

What do you hope for as the next big Avengers storyline? Let us know in comments.
