Marvel’s New Kang the Conqueror Miniseries Will Explore His Origin
Kang the Conqueror isn’t set to make his first live-action appearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania for another two years. Regardless, Marvel is laying the groundwork for his big screen debut with a new primer on the villain’s humble beginnings. Starting this summer, the House of Ideas will re-tell Kang’s origin in his very own comic book miniseries.
The Kang the Conqueror comic comes from co-writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing and artist Carlos Magno. The five-issue miniseries will “unravel Kang’s enormous legacy from his expansive backstory to his various alternate selves.” It will also “[tie] everything together and catapulting him into his biggest era yet.” Additionally, Kang is “caught in an endless cycle of creation and destruction dictated by time and previously unseen by any but the Conqueror himself.”
This isn’t the only place readers can find Kang this summer. Kang will also play a major role in Fantastic Four #35, a giant-sized spectacular celebrating the 60th anniversary of Marvel’s First Family. In that issue, the time-travelling supervillain will attack the heroes at various points throughout their history. That issue will also introduce Kang’s final descendant: Scion. Kang’s other incarnations also include Rama Tut, Immortus, and the Scarlet Centurion. However, Kang’s heroic persona, Iron Lad, won’t be involved in the attack on the FF.
“Carlos Magno is delivering jaw-dropping work that recalls the exacting detail and operatic emotion of Kang’s co-creator Jack Kirby,” said Lanzing in a statement. “We’re [also] genuinely stunned by every new page. Add the brilliant colors by Espen Grundetjern, letters by the Marvel master Joe Caramanga, and the insightful leadership of our editor Alanna Smith, and you’ve got a team worthy of one of Marvel’s greatest unsung characters.”
Kang the Conqueror #1 hits comic shops on August 18.
