Michael Giacchino’s Expanded Rogue One Score Arrives on Vinyl
It’s been over five years since Michael Giacchino stepped into John Williams’ shoes as the composer behind Lucasfilm’s inaugural Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Now, fans can revisit his critically-acclaimed score alongside newly-released music from the original recording sessions. Mondo is teaming up with Walt Disney Records to release an expanded edition of Giacchino’s Rogue One soundtrack on vinyl.
The new edition of the soundtrack features more than an hour of previously unheard material. Apparently, Giacchino dug up these selections ahead of Rogue One’s recent anniversary. All of his music from the film is getting pressed on four 180-gram LPs. Unfortunately, Mondo isn’t releasing any exciting color variants, so collectors will have to settle for standard black vinyl. But they are housing the music inside a package designed by artist John Powell.
Each disc fits inside a sleeve emblazoned with stark black-and-white renderings of the movie’s principal characters. That includes Jyn and Galen Erso, Cassian Andor, K-2SO, Chirrut Îmwe, Baze Malbus, Bodhi Rook, Orson Krennic, and even Darth Vader. Giacchino also contributed new liner notes for the release.
“This project was an almost five-week whirlwind of writing, recording, and mixing but I couldn’t have been more enthusiastic about the adventure and will always look back on those days with fond memories,” said Giacchino in a new statement. “As with all the film scores I compose, my goal was to serve the story and the emotions of the film, but I think it was my 10-year-old brain who had the most fun composing for this new and exciting set of Star Wars characters and the worlds they inhabit.”
Mondo’s expanded Rogue One soundtrack retails for $75. Pre-orders go live this Wednesday, February 16 at noon CST at MondoShop.com.
