Peacock’s Twisted Metal Series Adds Thomas Haden Church

Peacock’s Twisted Metal Series Adds Thomas Haden Church

Yet another Marvel alum is joining the cast of Peacock’s Twisted Metal adaptation. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Thomas Haden Church has booked a role opposite Anthony Mackie in the upcoming TV series based on Sony’s hit video games.

Church will appear in the series as Agent Stone, a character introduced in the original Twisted Metal. In the show, Stone is “a cold and unyielding post-apocalyptic highway patrolman who rules the roads with a silver tongue and a twisted iron fist, prosecuting even the smallest crimes with the harshest of judgments. Agent Stone will stop at nothing to bring law and order back to the Divided States of America, and will kill anyone in his path who defies his power.”

Mackie is headlining Twisted Metal as John Doe, a “smart-ass milkman” who travels across what’s left of the U.S. while delivering supplies to a number of settlements. Along the way, he must brave an armada of combat-equipped vehicles that leave trails of destruction in their wake. Stephanie Beatriz also joined the series earlier this month as Quiet, a car thief who teams up with Mackie’s character.

Most recently, Church reprised his Spider-Man 3 role as Flint Marko/Sandman in last year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. He also starred in HBO’s Divorce from 2016 to 2019. And of course, he is still widely remembered for his Oscar-winning performance in 2004’s Sideways.

The series is based on an original idea by Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who will executive produce the show alongside showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith and director Kitao Sakurai. Will Arnett, Marc Forman, Jason Spire, Peter Principato, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Hermen Hulst are executive producing as well.

Peacock hasn’t announced a premiere date for Twisted Metal.
