Toys run on a different schedule than movies, one which must be plotted out a year in advance. So when something like COVID-19 shows up and postpones the movies, action figures can’t necessarily delay as well. Already last year, Black Widow Marvel Legends came and went without any movie release. And while Hasbro managed to hold back Eternals action figures from retail, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Marvel Legends figures hit stores early, before that first trailer. But until everyone saw the footage, none of the merchandise could get officially announced.
Now the wait is over. The Marvel Legends Shang-Chi wave includes four movie figures, plus the previously revealed comic-based AI Tony Stark and Civil Warrior. Collect the whole wave to build a comic-based version of Mr. Hyde, who appears to reuse Kingpin parts. Movie figures include Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), his sister Xialing (Meng’er Zhang), father Wenwu a.k.a. The Mandarin (Tony Leung) and Death Dealer (actor unknown).
In addition to those four, Awkwafina’s Katy will come as a Target exclusive, with an unusual creature sidekick. Each figure retails for the new-normal Marvel Legends price of $22.99. (Expect to see action figure prices go up across the board this year.) In addition to appealing to Marvel fans, the classic kung fu movie-style appearances should appeal to anyone who has pined for super-articulated martial arts figures.
We’ve assembled Hasbro’s official images of the figures in the gallery below. All of them may also already hang on the pegs at a store near you.
Will you pick any of these up? Let us know in comments.
