Today’s Wonder Woman Day celebrations included a big announcement from Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles. In honor of the Amazon warrior’s 80th anniversary, the park is adding a new Wonder Woman-themed roller coaster to its growing roster of DC attractions in the summer of 2022.
Dubbed Wonder Woman: Flight of Courage, the new ride will be the 20th coaster to open at Magic Mountain, effectively safeguarding its world record for most roller coasters in a single amusement park. But this isn’t the only record the park is planning to break next summer. With 3,300 feet of track that reaches heights of up to 13 stories, Flight of Courage will also be the tallest and longest single-rail coaster in the world. These records are currently held by The Jersey Devil Coaster, which opened at Six Flags Great Adventure earlier this year. Additionally, Flight of Courage will have riders reaching speeds up to 58 miles an hour, giving them an idea of what it’s like to have Diana’s superhuman abilities.
It also sounds like the designers are putting an equal amount of effort into the look of the ride’s entrance and queue, which will feature Greek architecture and tropical landscapes modeled after Diana’s home of Themyscira. Visitors can also expect plenty of “dives, banks, rolls, and turns” befitting its namesake superhero.
Flight of Courage is replacing Green Lantern: First Flight, which previously closed in 2017. And by the time it opens, Magic Mountain’s DC Universe area will also have undergone some remodeling of its own, with plans for a “new, innovative restaurant and bar experience” along with new retail locations that sell exclusive DC merchandise.
