Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog sequel has just secured its first major new casting addition. Apparently, Shemar Moore has landed a mystery role in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Moore confirmed his involvement with the film by posting a photo on Instagram that shows him posing with returning cast members James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, and Natasha Rothwell. You can check out the image below.
Moore currently headlines CBS’s S.W.A.T., which was recently picked up for a fifth season. Previously, he was a series regular on Criminal Minds and has also voiced Victor Stone/Cyborg in several DC animated movies, including last year’s Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 began filming in March and wrapped principal photography last month. Jeff Fowler is returning to direct the sequel, with co-writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller once again tackling the script. Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey are also set to reprise their roles as Sonic and Dr. Robotnik, respectively. Additionally, the new film is expected to introduce several other characters from SEGA’s classic video games, including Tails and Knuckles.
The original Sonic the Hedgehog exceeded expectations when it hit theaters last year. In addition to receiving strong reviews for a video game adaptation, it was also one of the few films to open before the pandemic struck. As a result, it became one of 2020’s highest-grossing films.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will hit theaters on April 8, 2022.
